I guess I should be flattered…
Well I’m just about off to bed. It’s 12:13am, and I should have been in bed an hour ago… haha… Anyway, I just thought that I might was well share some of my thoughts from today.
First of all, over the past couple of months, Bob and I received a few requests from other photographers (some local, some not so local). We’ve gotten requests ranging from “can you teach me your lighting techniques” to “can I join you guys in the studio as a second shooter”. The way I see it is that if our peers are coming to us with questions like this, then they must really respect our work (or maybe they think they’re better and they want to take our clients, but I prefer the former thought… haha). It really makes me feel good about my work when my peers compliment me. It’s always much harder to impress another professional photographer, than it is to impress a client.
Secondly, I’ve noticed that other photographers have tried to “mimic” some of my shots and styles in photos of their own. While this is kind of irritating, I can still see it as a compliment of my work. I enjoy coming up with ideas for shots. It’s the creative part of me being let out… kinda like letting your inner child loose on the playground. But I come up with those ideas for me, and for my clients, not for other photographers. I take pride in knowing that everyone that walks out of my studio has something unique… but when another photographer copies it, it’s no longer unique.
Now I can’t really do anything about this since my work is out there for everyone to see; and I’m not about to stop posting my work… you guys might start yelling at me! lol! So since I can’t do anything about it, I might as well embrace it, right?
Haha… so anyway, to my peers, thanks for all the indirect compliments! I appreciate it, and I have to say, I’m flattered!
ahhhh… off to bed….
